Clash of Clans forum got million accounts hacked

Supercell, the developer of the popular casual strategy Clash of Clans, reported on a major hack of user accounts of its forum. It is reported that more than one million accounts were leaked, but the studio did not disclose the exact number.

In the official announcement, Supercell reported that the hacking had occurred in September and that it affected the studio’s site forum. The hacker attack is not connected with game accounts in any way. The company is the developer of not only Clash of Clans, but also the mobile hits Hay Day, Clash Royale and Boom Beach.

“At the moment, we are considering a report that the vulnerability allowed third-party hackers to gain unauthorized access to some information about forum users, including a number of electronic mailboxes and encrypted passwords,” Supercell said in its announcement. “Judging by the preliminary investigation, the leak occurred in September  after which the problem was fixed.”

The company added that all of these leaks are taken very seriously and, when it comes to user safety, adheres to a very strict policy. “Please note that this leak affects our forum,” Supercell wrote. “Game accounts weren’t affected.”

The company recommended that users change passwords as quickly as possible – and this also applies to passwords in all other systems in which a person uses the same login data.
